Privacy Policy
Cuchara, an app by Garaoui LLC · Last updated 2 October 2026
This policy explains what Cuchara collects, why, and what happens to it. It is written to be read rather than to protect us, so it is specific about the things that are easy to gloss over — particularly the shared recipe library described in section 2.
1. What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create your account and let you sign in on another device |
| Links you share or paste | To read the recipe from them |
| Screenshots and recipe text you choose to share | To read the recipe from them. A screenshot is used only for that and is not kept; the recipe read from it is saved to your library |
| Recipes saved to your library | So they are there when you come back |
| Your edits, notes and collections | To keep your changes separate from everyone else's |
| Meal plans and shopping lists | To provide those features |
| Number of recipes you have imported | To count your five free recipes, and for our own cost controls |
| Subscription status | To unlock paid features |
| Your chosen language | To show the app and your recipes in it. Saved on your phone and sent with requests so recipes come back translated |
Kept only on your phone
- Your language choice and unit preference (grams or cups)
- The ingredients you mark as “I have this at home”
What we do not collect
- Your location
- Your contacts, or any photo or file you have not chosen to share with Cuchara
- Health, fitness or dietary health information
- Advertising identifiers. We show no advertising and do not track you across other apps or websites
- Your payment card details, which are handled entirely by Apple or Google
2. The shared recipe library
This is the part worth reading properly. When you import a recipe from a public post, the extracted text is stored in a library shared by all Cuchara users. If someone else imports the same video later, they receive that stored copy instead of us processing it again.
The shared copy contains the recipe and a link to the original post. It does not record who imported it, and nothing in it identifies you to another user.
Your own edits, notes, collections and plans are never shared. They are stored separately against your account, and correcting an ingredient in your copy changes nothing for anyone else.
Recipes read on your device, from a screenshot or from text you pasted, and recipes we could not read automatically, are stored only against your account and are never added to the shared library.
Translations follow the same rule. A translation of a shared recipe is stored with it, so the next person who reads it in that language gets it straight away. A translation of a recipe that is only yours, or that you have edited, is stored only against your account.
3. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We use these services to run the app:
| Service | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Your email, account identifier, saved recipes, plans and usage counts. Firebase stores our database and runs our server code. |
| Google Gemini | The text of the post being imported, any screenshot you share, and recipe text to be translated, so they can be turned into a structured recipe in your language. Your email and account identifier are not sent. |
| Apple and Google | Payment details, if you subscribe. We never see your card. |
Our servers are located in the European Union. If you use Cuchara from elsewhere, your data is transferred there and to Google's infrastructure, which operates internationally.
4. How we read a post
Usually our servers fetch the public page you shared and read the recipe from it. Some platforms refuse requests that come from servers, so for those the app fetches the public page from your device instead and sends us the text it found. None of your accounts, logins or passwords on those platforms are used, and we do not download or store the video.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account and library: until you delete your account
- Usage counts: kept by month, for our own cost records
- Shared recipe library: kept indefinitely, as it contains no personal data
6. Deleting your account
Open Settings in the app and choose Delete my account. This removes your sign-in credentials, saved recipes, edits, plans and shopping lists. It is immediate and cannot be undone.
Recipes already in the shared library remain, because they contain no information about you.
If you cannot reach the app, email [email protected] from your registered address and we will delete the account for you.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, to object to how it is processed, or to withdraw consent. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom these rights come from the GDPR; in California, from the CCPA. We apply them to everyone regardless of location.
Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you or reduce your service for exercising any of these rights.
8. Children
Cuchara is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Recipe content and creators
Recipes are extracted from posts and pages their authors published publicly. Cuchara stores the recipe text and links back to the original. We are not affiliated with TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest or any recipe publisher.
If you created a recipe and want it removed, email [email protected] with the link and we will remove it from the shared library.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure provider. Access rules prevent one account from reading another's data. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach occurs that puts your data at risk we will notify affected users without undue delay.
11. Changes
If we change this policy materially we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
